My name is Gretchen, and I am a free lance web designer. I also happen to be a trained technical fine artist. So, I at least know what I’m doing 50% of the time.

philosophy

Artmaking/designing is basically second nature to me... contrived at times, but mostly my brain is buzzing in those two realms. Artmaking is a spiritual act for me. I get immersed in the medium, let it take over, and try to express my ideas through it. I feel most at one with my work when I'm throwing clay on the potters wheel; I feel myself move through every pull. Designing is almost opposite and is an intellectual battle that takes place in the midst of coding. I'm consistantly trying to challenge myself to out-do every project I take on. I try to stay current on new coding practices, and learn new programs when I can. I want to make sure I stay among my competition.

Personally, I don't enjoy working on things I can't stand by. I want to make and provide the best design possible. I am a perfectionist at heart, so for a lot of my work I never see it completed. When working with a client I try to take as much time as I can physically give out of my crazy schedule and try to develop something that truly refelects their style, and at the same time try to maintain a little bit of my voice in it.
